Apple iPhone 3G S 8GB Review
The Apple iPhone is the leading product in the smart phone category. Somehow, whenever the iPhone mobile phones are launched in the market more people line up and prepare for purchase. The great amount of publicity often makes us wonder if it's some kind of ploy to hide what the iPhone 3GS can really do. This Apple iPhone 3GS 8GB review can serve as a guideline for consumers to base their decisions on. After all, iPhones are not exactly cheap. The model to be reviewed is the 8GB unit of the 3GS iPhone.
What We Like
Additional phone features – First, the newer 3GS model is now water-resistant and oil-resistant. This may come in handy to people who are prone to accidents just as long as it doesn't involve dropping the device in cold hard concrete. Second, the wireless capacity of the 3GS increased from 3.6 Mbps to 7.2 Mbps HSDPA. Third, the voice control is a pleasant addition to the phone as well.
Faster interface – The iPhone 3GS is noticeable faster and more snappy than the 3G. This can be attributed to the increased processor capacity of the 3GS at 600MHz ARM 11 compared to the 3G's 412MHz ARM 11.
Better camera – The iPhone 3GS sports a higher resolution camera at 3 MP compared to the 2 MP capacity of the iPhone 3G. More than that, the new camera is capable of autofocus, macro mode and an auto white balance setting. Video recording is also now possible at the 30fps VGA capacity of the 3GS camera. The phone has its own editing program in the 3GS.
Longer battery life – The iPhone 3G uses up a lot of energy that it is depleted by the end of the day. We love the longer battery life since it is capable of longer standby time of more than one day than the 3G.
What We Don't Like
Low call quality – Calling with the iPhone 3GS is still the same experience with the 3G model. Calls are choppy and there are no improvements in this department.
Unstable signal reception – This can partly be blamed on the service provider. However, the fact that the iPhone 3GS lacks stable reception is one reason why it doesn't win us as a real mobile phone.
Conclusion
Obviously, we think that the upgrade to the iPhone 3GS is a good idea. There are many improvements when it comes to hardware and software upgrades that reluctant 3G owners are missing out on. The interface of the iPhone 3GS 8GB model is much smoother and snappy rather than the 3G's performance. There are also many firsts with the 3GS. It now supports video recording as well as MMS. The camera is not the best but it definitely is more decent than its predecessor.
The 3GS may not have the same appeal as the first time when the iPhone 3G was introduced to the market. It many ways, the 3GS comes off as an improved only version of the 3G. But with the amount of upgrades placed at the 3GS, we think it would be much more valuable to switch to the newer 3rd generation model since it has a lot of newer features that will make computing more enjoyable.
The Apple iPhone 3G has definitely made a lot of improvements by working out most of the problems that troubled a lot of iPhone 4 users. Aside from this, another thing to love about this phone is the fact that it is very user-friendly. Indeed, this phone has very much captured one of the major goals of iPhones and that is to place in one device what a cell phone, music player and mobile internet gadget can do. The 3 megapixel camera with autofocus definitely makes picture and video capture fun and exciting.
