GETTING AHEAD OF THE GAME
After using a HTC handset to make the Nexus One, Google have opted for the smart Samsung Galaxy S base to create the Nexus S smart phone. Unlike its predecessor, the Nexus S isn’t sold only through Google’s online store, but can be found from a range of networks and providers.
The Nexus S is the first to run Google’s latest Android operating system 2.3 Gingerbread. Unlike other Android models, the Nexus S runs only the stock Android OS, meaning that there are no third-party applications that can be said to wear away at the genuine Google experience. Stock Android models also receive updates before any other Android phone to test out whether they cooperate with other Android add-ons, meaning you get to test-drive updates before other Android phone users.
The Nexus S has vamped up hardware specifications compared to the Nexus One, including a larger screen, updated processor and an updated CP model which allows for better performance. These all combine to create a better user experience with the Nexus S, leaving the mobile as a pleasure to use.
The phone’s home screen is compatible with live wallpapers such as Microbes where tiny ‘microbes’ move around the screen and feed on food which is produced when you tap the screen, until the microbes get too large and split. This adds an element of fun and creativity to the mobile, meaning the mobile is constantly in motion and interesting to use. Despite the battery drain, very little tops the phone’s live wallpapers in terms of aesthetics.
The audio quality of the Nexus S is brilliant, following the lead of other Android models. When connected to an amplifier, the audio output is arguably flawless with decent loudness. The audio quality is better than the Galaxy S with improved frequency response and other readings.
There are, however, a number of downfalls with the mobile, which hinder success against its current competitors. The video camera capabilities are lower than those on most mobiles available at present, given that it doesn’t include HD 720p video recording. This means that the quality of your videos won’t be as good as most, perhaps not being as clear on larger screens such as computers and televisions.
Potentially the largest flaw with the Nexus S is the design of the casing – it is entirely made of plastic. This leaves the mobile as a complete magnet for fingerprints, which make it look dirty and means the model is easier to scratch. If you are more concerned with the appearance of a phone over its specifications and features, this could be an issue. Additionally, the phone does not include a specific button for the camera, meaning you have to go into the menus to find the camera application before you can shoot your images. There is no lens cover either which can lead to the camera becoming damaged and your image quality deteriorating with time.

This phone blows the iphone out of the water.. dynamic widgets, scrolling up and down for apps instead of just side to side off the homepage, Google apps integration, etc etc.. Android is racing ahead. You can tinker with this thing to your hearts content. Ken
