GIVE INTO TEMPTATION
Boasting the latest Android operating system 2.2 Froyo with HTC Sense, the Desire HD is ahead of the crowd in every aspect. If the Desire’s powerful OS wasn’t enough, the handset includes an 8 MP integrated camera and HD video recording capabilities. This puts the mobile on par with other successful smart phones currently on the market, letting you take photos to the same quality that you could with a standard camera.
Google have really pushed the boat out with their latest addition to the Android family – the HTC Desire HD. There are countless features crammed into this monster of a mobile, which is about as sturdy and hardwearing as you can get on the market at present.
The HTC Sense software allows for deep personalisation of your mobile’s user interface, allowing you to style your phone exactly how you want it and have your favourite applications and widgets on the home screens. Android phones also use a notifications feature where you can see a list of the recent tasks you’ve performed on the phone, similar to the task manager on PCs. The Desire HD also includes a handy super fast boot-up feature where the mobile switches on in no time – useful if you’re in a rush to make a call/send a text.
The phone features smart dialling, where the built in accelerometer allows you to mute calls by placing the phone face down and the proximity sensor signals the phone to increase the ringer volume when the mobile is stored in your pocket. Voice calling is also available, where you can press a button and say the name of your desired contact and the phone will automatically call them for you. The HTC Desire HD can use the Android app Blocked Callers which allows you to stop certain numbers/contacts from calling/texting you, which is handy if you are receiving an onslaught of prank calls.
Downfalls of the HTC Desire HD include the fact that the LCD screen isn’t quite as clear and bright as Retina or Super AMOLED screens on other smart phone. The lower quality screen doesn’t measure up to some of the other smart phones available at present such as the Samsung Galaxy S. Another potential design let-down is the weight of the phone – coming in at a hefty 164g. This may prove uncomfortable if you have smaller hands or use the mobile for long periods of time as it may become heavy to hold.
The battery life of the HTC Desire HD has been said to be somewhat poor. However, given the vast amount of applications and features the phone possesses, not to mention the 8MP/HD camera, you’re unlikely to want to put the phone down and may spend more time on it than you would with another. This can be a pain if you’re constantly on the go and need the phone to be consistently reliable throughout the day. It is recommended that you charge the mobile daily.
