Samsung Wave 3 Review

Samsung has become one of the leading brands to produce different types of mobile phone with varying operating systems. They have the Galaxy Series among the Android-powered phone while we can play around with Microsoft-powered Omnia series. Even with the numerous varieties of smart phones in the market, Samsung has released the Samsung Wave 3 carrying Samsung’s own operating system, the BADA OS. With the Wave 3, Samsung aims to offer a new and refreshing option for mobile users.

What we like

This phone comes with the new BADA 2.0 OS and built with a 1.4Gz single-core Scorpion processor. It uses the Touchwiz user interface and is able to support handwriting recognition. Its 4-inch screen comes with Super AMOLED Technology so overall display is great.

Though the microSD expansion slot and SIM slot are placed inside the chassis together with the battery, the battery is not on top of the other slots. Hence, you can hot-swap cards without prying the battery open.

The BADA interface supports voice recognition and it is pretty accurate. The interface allows you to frequently issue a command or phrase so you can get to where you want to go with less effort.

Touchscreen functionality and kinetic scrolling is very fluid and responsive. Even panning, zooming and text reflow work really well. It comes with two cameras. There is a front-facing camera able to render in VGA quality. The second one is a 5-megapixe camera located at the back. Also, this phone is capable of HD video recording in 720p format and with frame speed of 30fps.

Multimedia functions did get visual upgrades and additional cool features. The music player includes new options such as equalizer presets and imbedded song recognition. Most video formats was supported using the video player such as HD videos for up to 720p and Xvid/DivX videos.

he Samsung Wave 3 supports GPS, A-GPS and Samsung’s own Mobile Navigator. Other connectivity features include WiFi, DLNA, Bluetooth and HSDPA. Internal memory included with the phone is 4GB and is expandable using the microSD slot for up to 32GB.

What we don’t like

For a 4-inch phone, it only supports a resolution of 480x800 pixels. This is quite low considering other 4-inch models of the same price range come with higher resolution. The built-in BADA OS does not work with Adobe Flash and is not capable of functioning with multi-core processors.

With six homescreens you can customize, it can be confusing for a smart phone neophyte. You only have five free widgets to start with. If you need more widgets, you can get them from the app store. However, there are only a few selection of free widgets and most of them will come with extra cost.

Conclusion

With the new BADA OS, the Samsung Wave 3 is still able to compete with other smart phones in terms of features and performance. This phone is definitely suited for people who want their phone to be unique and different from other popular choices.
