Too much like BlackBerry’s Curve

Thanks to its full physical QWERTY keypad, the Sony Ericsson TXT is good mobile for people who like to communicate via SMS and email. Connectivity on this device is good, as is its music player, but we can’t help but feel that the camera’s resolution needs to be higher.

What We Like

The TXT is Sony Ericsson’s answer to the BlackBerry Curve, featuring a 165mm slim design as well as a full physical QWERTY keypad. Available in black, white, blue or pink, the TXT will suit the majority of people’s tastes and preferences.

As you would expect due to its name, connectivity is pretty good on the TXT; the device has both Wi-Fi and EDGE for connecting to the internet, as well as Micro USB and Bluetooth A2DP for sending data and files to other devices. Thanks to its GPRS abilities, this phone can second as a Satellite Navigation System too.

Popular social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook are fully integrated with the TXT’s phone book thanks to its operating system, making it easy for you to keep up to date with your friends and family, as well as post new statuses regularly.

Although there’s only a pitiful 120MB of internal memory on the TXT, this can be upgraded easily to a whopping 32GB through the use of a MicroSD card. When combined with the 64MB of RAM that this device has, the Sony Ericsson TXT is a pretty quick device considering the price bracket that it falls into, and so we’re rather pleased.

MP3 and AAC file formats are both compatible with this mobile’s music player, making transferring songs onto this mobile easy to do. Sound quality is fairly good as well, and features such as the PlayNow ringtone downloading service can be found here, as well as TrackID, which allow users to discover more information about music that they like.

What We Don't Like

At 3.2MP, we can’t help but feel that the camera could be better; although this resolution is exactly what you would expect to find on the BlackBerry Curve, Sony Ericsson are supposed to be competing for custom here, and so we think a better photo-snapper would have done the trick – after all, BlackBerry fans are very loyal and so will need quite a bit of persuasion.

Conclusion

Sony Ericsson has done a pretty good job with their TXT; connectivity is good, and the full physical QWERTY keypad means that communication is easy and quick.

The camera is a bit of a let-down though, and we just think that Sony Ericsson hasn’t really tried to produce anything that breaks the mould; at 3.2MP, the TXT is very much like the BlackBerry Curve. Although we can see the appeal of creating something that has been tried and tested in the current market, there is no feature on this device that makes us think it better than any other mobile out there. In fact, other than the logo, there is nothing to tell us that this is a Sony Ericsson.

For those people who spend a lot of time sending text messages can and will find this phone very handy. Its full QWERTY keyboard is very easy to manage and the D-pad feature comes very handy as it is dedicated to make texting much faster and easier. There is not much to note on its touchsreen, camera and media features, but its wide array of connectivity options can be inviting. The battery life, though, is not that commendable.

I bought this phone 5 days ago I have no problems with it. I dont use much of those techie stuff and I jsut use this phone for calling and messaging and sometimes games and internet. Battery life is long, can last to 3-5 days. Good one Sony Ericsson.

This phone is not a multitasker! I use social networking a lot and I have to log-in everytime I use another social network! It hangs when I use applications for a long time. I don't like this at all!

I text a lot and this phone made my life so much simpler. Just get this phone if you motsly use mobile phones for texting as it has been designed and made for this very purpose. But, still, it does not really mean that it is just good in this aspect as it is still loaded with featyres that you will really die to try.

This is a good phone for being a spare phone. You can text fast and recieve calls without problems. I don't rely much on this on ther things though. I rarely use the applications on this one as I have a Blackberry. If you're on a budget, then this phone is a good choice. I can recommend this phone to anyone who loves texting because its very easy to text with this phone. Its a good buy.
