Sony Ericsson XPERIA Ray Review
This product is another of Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA line of phones. It can be bought for a contract of twenty pounds per month. If you wish to purchase only the unit, it sells for a price of three hundred pounds.
What We Like
Perhaps it’s worth noting the body of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Ray is especially thin. Super sleek phones seem to be the hottest trend nowadays, and this product will attract a lot of attention simply because of its looks. To further add to its elegance, the back of the phone is rubberized for ease of grip, while its front casing is jet-black with minimalist buttons.
It has an overall weight of 100 grams, and a thickness of just 9.4mm. You won’t have a problem fitting it in your pocket with such dimensions.
Despite the smaller display compared to other XPERIA phones, this product has roughly the same high-end software installed on it. It is equipped with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread – an operating system specifically designed for smartphones. This system confers excellent functionality on the phone, since it enables the unit to use applications simultaneously, check your email messages, and log in to your social networking sites without any lag. Furthermore, you can download applications and games directly unto your phone.
The colors of the display are also a plus point for this phone. It has a resolution of 480x854 pixels, rivaling the pixel density of most competitors. This results in a crisp and vibrant screen display, and you also won’t have any problems seeing the menus with direct sunlight.
You can switch from a full QWERTY keyboard to an alphanumeric (nine-button) keyboard. It is advised that you stick with the alphanumeric option, because the QWERTY keyboard will look quite cramped due to the small screen.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Ray boasts of an 8-megapixel camera for taking high quality photos. In addition, it also has the capacity to record high definition videos with a resolution of 720 pixels. An additional feature – called an Exmor R sensor – allows you to take good photos even in the absence of ideal lighting. It also has smile detection and image stabilization features.
The phone has a 1GHz processor, with 512 megabytes of RAM. These specifications might not be as topnotch as newly released phones, but it’s good enough to run all of the phone’s applications. Moreover, it has Wi-Fi connection, and a micro SD slot than can support up to 32GB of memory.
What We Don’t Like
The greatest downfall of this phone is the small screen – it only has a size of 3.3 inches. This makes the menus and applications look squished on the screen.
Conclusion
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Ray isn’t as expensive as other smartphones, but that doesn’t compromise its functionality. It has a colorful display and can handle multi-tasking because of its high-speed processor. The only qualm is the small touchscreen – thus if you have stubby fingers, it’s better to find another phone for yourself. Otherwise, this phone’s features are definitely worth your money.
Avg. Rating
8.5First disappointment was with the pictures that never look as good as they are in the phone when transferred to other devices. I could complain about the battery but it is already quite understandable especially with all the features it is packed and how fast its processor is.
Yeah, it may be small but is really, really fast. Soemthing that is quite impressive. The video is quite great too as well as the quality of the screen
This Android phone is a very nice addition to the XPERIA family. Its touchscreen is responsive and the quality of the build is very nice and feels sturdy. Its slim design makes it look unique. The camera is very good, it is an 8 megapixel and has great quality results. You can rely on this phone as I have. It is worth the money.
this is quite a slim phone, it has great smartphone goodies and even has a very good camera. i toyed with the camera and i really appreciate the results it had. this phone is also fast although there is an occasional lag.
The XPERIA phone is just an amazing line of mobile technology. Especially the XPERIA ray. Among the touchscreen phones I have used, this is the most responsive of them all. The camera is of high quality too!
